Capturing emotions

John Armstrong-Millar

Wedding Photography  Dordogne & South West France

France based, Chateau Weddings in the Dordogne and Provence, Capturing moments unobtrusively to tell the real story of your wedding day. All the the emotions, the colours and the fun, in a way that anyone looking at the images will have a real sense of what it was like to have been there at your wedding.

Life is not measured in time, but in moments.

“My now husband and I approached our wedding Photographer hunt with one rather particular goal in mind: to find a photographer who could capture the mood and feel of our wedding day as simply and organically as possible, exposing through the lens our true personalities as naturally and realistically as possible. We wanted to be able to look back on these photographs and feel as if we were reliving each and every moment, captured like stills from a romantic, funny, wonderful movie that we wanted to watch over and over again.

John accomplished all that and more and we couldn’t be more pleased with our choice of photographer.

One of the reasons we feel so lucky to have found John is because he is not just a wedding photographer but rather has a very wide ranging scope of events and subjects that he works with. His ability to capture raw emotion in each photograph is uncanny, as is his aptitude for reading people, understanding their needs and delivering inspiring, breath-taking, and amazing pictures.

John is kind, has an understated approach and is absolutely wonderful to work with. We feel so fortunate to have had such such a gifted and wonderful photographer preserve each and every moment of our wedding day:

If you are able to secure John for your wedding day or other, do so without hesitation!”

Chateaux Weddings France.

From the serene and tranquil to the downright amazing.

I shoot weddings all over France and in my unobtrusive reportage style, I love to capture the essence of your day at Chateaux or Manoir or in a private house tucked away in a village.

“ Chateau Wedding in France.”

With more than 1200 Privately owned Chateaux in the Dordogne, there’s a lot of choice. There are a few exceptional ones, see my list of top five here, but this is by no means exhaustive. Each year I’m living in France I seem to find a new one. It’s not just the venues, the cuisine in this part of France is legendary, with the wines of St Emilion and St Estephe, and of course the food, duck and Foie Gras; All this means that for a simply stunning event, everything you need is local, but for me it’s the people that make the day! I love shooting people and where better than the South of France? The question is which one.

“The Provence Wedding.”

While Chateaux are not so common here, Provence is special, the sounds, the tastes, the smell of freshly cut lavender, the fantastic food, so different from the Dordogne. The dark almost burnt red wine and of course the Rosé from Bandol with it’s beautiful salmon pink “robe”. The beautiful warm evenings with a glass of Pastis listening to the clack of boules, still being played until it gets too dark. I love to shoot here with the tiny stone hill-top villages, the bright azure skies and the beautiful golden evening light. Everything you have heard about La Côte d’Azure is true. I count myself lucky to live in a country that has not one but two fabulous wedding destinations.

If you have got this far that’s fantastic . I’m one of a small number of French Wedding photographers who actually live full-time in France. Chateau Weddings in France are a dream come true! You can hire a Chateau and even get married in a thousand year old church. There are so many possibilities here in France

I have been covering International weddings in France for over 14 years now and along the way I’ve picked up a few tips to make your day go swimmingly.

I work closely with a select group of Wedding planners who are also based in France and over the years I have had the privilege to photograph some amazing events, both great and small, but it’s never about the budget it’s about what everyone “brings” to France, and the one thing I have found about living here is that France brings out the very best in people.

I guess you know this already as you have decided to get married in France, be it in a grand Chateau a tiny village, or a friends house, it’s going to be a wonderful adventure that will change you, and leave you with fond and lasting memories of this amazing country.

I’d be very happy to photograph it all for you, or even just have a chat about your plans.
