The Art of the Unscripted
ABOUT Me
Wedding Photographer France
I’m an English-speaking wedding photographer in France based near Bordeaux and one of the few British photographers who has made France home. For over 15 years, I’ve been documenting destination weddings across some of the country’s most beautiful venues, from elegant château celebrations in Bordeaux and the Dordogne to luxury estates in Provence, Paris, and beyond.
My photography is known for its relaxed, refined, and emotionally rich approach. Rather than directing every moment, I focus on capturing the atmosphere, connections, and genuine emotions that make your wedding uniquely yours. The result is a collection of images that feels natural, timeless, and effortlessly elegant.
Having photographed weddings at many of France’s most sought-after venues, I’ve also built a trusted network of planners, florists, celebrants, caterers, and other exceptional suppliers. For couples planning their wedding from abroad, this local knowledge can be invaluable, and I’m always happy to share recommendations to help create a seamless and memorable experience.
Whether you’re hosting an intimate gathering at a private family estate or a multi-day celebration at a luxury château, my goal is simple: to tell the story of your wedding beautifully, authentically, and without intrusion.
A Signature Approach: Refined, Real, Unscripted
For more than two decades, I have been capturing destination weddings across France for couples from around the world.
My philosophy is simple:
Full-day coverage — from early-morning preparations to the final late-night moments, including those unforgettable midnight swims.
Timeless, luminous imagery that highlights authentic emotion, stunning venues, and the small details that make your day uniquely yours.
An artist’s eye, shaped by extensive experience in editorial, food, and documentary photography.
Recognition & Creative Work
A Winner (2021) 2nd and 3rd place 2013 and 2016 and multiple year finalist in the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year, I also make celebrated food and product imagery. you can find my broader artistic work on platforms such as Behance and Saatchi Art.
From my base in the Dordogne, I also offer film, and Digital photography services for private and commercial clients.

Follow the light [Chateau Clauzade]
The light makes the image, This one was taken under the trees for the beautiful shade .It was 36 degrees that day and after a chat with the planner we moved the ceremony under the trees, et voila as they say.

Putting people at ease [Chateau Soulac]
A recurring theme in messages of thanks I get from couples is that I’m a calm and relaxing presence. You can’t buy that.. well yes you can actually, you can book me for your wedding.

The Human Experience [Private House in the Gers]
I’m there to capture the day. The emotions , the love , the laughs and everything in between

My WORK
I’ve been a photographer all my life. Starting at the tender age of sixteen I realised that I didn’t want to do anything else in life except take photographs . That said it wasn’t always straightforward, I have worked in every discipline from the Silver Halide days (now making a comeback) to the digital age. This gives me an astonishing overview and the very wide experience I have gained over the years brings a fresh approach (I hope) to photographing your wedding.
Wedding and portraits were probably the last thing I expected to be shooting when I moved to France just over 20 years ago. Life is strange and The Chateau Wedding which has its own unique challenges became a wonderful journey of discovery. meeting amazing people and working at incredible venues. I have spent the last 20 years trundling around France capturing it all.

Analogue Weddings
There’s nothing better than film. It’s literally magic, a chemical miracle. You never know exactly what you are going to get until it’s processed even then they’re are many possible outcomes when the negative is actually printed. It’s not for everyone though and I wouldn’t undertake to shoot a full modern wedding with only film. Luckily we don’t have to…

Film + Digital Weddings
Digital and Film mix for a wedding is a lot of fun and brings a great “vibe” to the day.
Jam Weddings
JAM Weddings
So where did the name come from?
Well the more astute may have noticed that JAM is simply my initials, John Armstrong-Millar. My name doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue so my friends know me as JAM so it made sense to call the wedding business that.
So people knew me as JAM so it made sense also Jam Weddings helped differentiate from my commercial and artistic work. These days it’s all happily blended together into one thing.
So in 2026 it’s all together on one website.
